Betty Benedict lives in Social Circle, Georgia, and Hayesville, North Carolina. Before retiring, she owned the largest cosmetology school in Georgia, the third largest in the country.

The DeKalb Chamber of Commerce said she had affected the economy of the county more than any individual owning a business. She was Georgia’s Business Man of the Year in 1972 and 1973. President Jimmy Carter proclaimed a week in her honor when governor. WSB Radio awarded her “Busy Beaver” award in 1973. She lobbied at Georgia State Capital during most legislative sessions from 1962-93.

She serves on the Board of Social Circle Historic Preservation Society.
